JAKARTA - The National Police explained the reason why someone with the initials TR was named a suspect in the Bahar bin Smith hate speech case. TR is known to spread videos containing hate speech on social media.

"So it was TR who carried out the deployment," said Head of Public Information of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan to reporters, Tuesday, January 4.

In addition, from the results of the TR examination, it was said that they recorded when Bahar bin Smith gave a lecture at Marga Asih, Bandung Regency, on December 11.

Then, the video recording was uploaded on a YouTube account. Where, his actions were deliberately carried out with the aim of spreading the video.

"So the role of brother TR is to take pictures and then send them through one of your YouTube accounts," said Ramadhan.

"Where this YouTube account is of course made to be watched by many people. That's where investigators conclude that they are spreading. Spreading fake news through the YouTube account," he continued.

Meanwhile, Bahar bin Smith was officially named a suspect in the alleged hate speech case. In fact, Bahar was decided to be detained.

"His status was upgraded and he became a suspect," said the Head of Public Relations of the West Java Police, Grand Commissioner Ibrahim Tompo.

The determination of this suspect, continued Ibrahim, after West Java Police investigators pocketed strong evidence of a criminal offense committed by Bahar bin Smith.

In addition, investigators also decided to arrest Bahar bin Smith. The detention was carried out after the lecturer was examined for 8 hours.

"The examination started at around 1 to 9 o'clock. He has been detained at the West Java Regional Police," said Ibrahim.

Bahar bin Smith is suspected of violating Article 14 Paragraph 1 and Article 15 paragraph 1 of the Basic Law Number 1 Year 46 in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code and Article 45A paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph 2 of the ITE Constitution Juncto Article 55 of the Criminal Code.
