JAKARTA - Proposals from the Indonesian government regarding the management of global royalties have the support of the world's largest digital music streaming platform based in the US, Spotify.
Meanwhile, the proposal titled The Indonesian Proposal for a Legally Binding Instrument on the Government of Copyright Royalty in Digital Environment (Indonesian Proposal for Instruments Legally Binding on the Governance of Copyright Royalties in the Digital Environment) is a proposal submitted through the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) or the World Intellectual Property Organization.
The proposal was generated through the collaboration of the Ministry of Law (Kemenkum) with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Creative Economy.
The Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas, appreciated Spotify's support for the proposal. He ensured that his party would fight for this proposal for the benefit of the global community, especially regarding royalties governance in Indonesia.
"Thank you to Spotify for expressing its support for royalty management in Indonesia. We will continue to monitor the sustainability of this proposal," Supratman said, citing the official Instagram upload of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Friday, October 24.
"This is an important step to ensure fair, transparent, and sustainable royalty governance for copyright owners," Supratman added.
In addition, Vineeta Dixit as Director of Public Policy and Government Relations of JAPAC Spotify said that his party hopes to work together and support Indonesia's proposal to empower artists and promote fair royalty governance. Especially in Indonesia, they provide support for managing royalties to be transparent.

"We appreciate the Ministry's commitment to ensure that royalties governance in Indonesia remains transparent, accountable, and fair for all rights holders. Efforts to reform LMKN and LMK in order to strengthen the royalties collection and distribution system are an important step towards creating greater trust and efficiency in the industry," said Dixit.
"We are in line with the belief that artists, composers and songwriters deserve fair compensation for their creative contributions, and we fully support initiatives that uphold this principle," he added.
Meanwhile, The Indonesian Proposal for a Legally Binding Instrument on the Governance of Copyright Royalty in Digital Environment contains three important things, namely:
First, royalty management through a global WIPO framework consisting of phonogram management and audiovisual documentation, facilitation of the licensing process and royalties collection, as well as strengthening supervision in royalty distribution.
Second, the user-based alternative royalty distribution system or user-centric payment. This proposal also opens up space for other alternative models that can provide proportional incentives.
Third, strengthening the governance of collective management institutions through standardizing the governance of legally binding WIPO member countries, as well as encouraging the management of cross-border royalties through collective management institutions.
