The Hours Of Silence Presents The Passion Of The 90s Band Children Through The Late Bloomers Album

JAKARTA - It's better to be late than never at all. This expression came to my head after undergoing a hearing session on The Hours of Silence (THoS)'s latest album with the title "Late Bloomers" on Radio Dalam, South Jakarta last weekend.

THoS is a rock band consisting of Yuka (vocals), Anda Perdana (guitar), Rendi (bass), and Quiddo (drums), which were formed because of their friendship while studying at Pangudi Luhur High School in the early 1990s.

At that time, THoS released a mini album in cassette format. They also had time to be guests on several music shows. Unfortunately, their journey was too short, until the end each personnel chose their own way of life.

When the pandemic hit the world in 2020, opportunities came for Yuka, Anda, Rendi, and Quiddo. They continued their dream of working on a full album that had been delayed for decades.

"This album completes what has started, we want to realize the ideals that were not achieved in the past," said THoS personnel.

During a session with Late Bloomers, I and several media colleagues were presented with ten songs recorded by THoS in the last four years. Some of them are also presented along with music videos, while others are with lyric video.

At first glance, my memory of high school comes when I try to be a band kid. THoS's songs reminded me of the sound of British and American bands in the 1990s.

The hearing session Late Bloomers made me want to listen to it again. At least, I've played all the songs in sequence on Spotify three times.

Their works, bring back the essence of song intro as an atmosphere builder, a rich riff-riff, as well as guitar and bass solo games.

The sixth track 'Silence Remain' makes me amazed, how in the digital era like today, THoS presents a song with a duration of more than seven minutes.

The 'Silence Remain' itself has been recorded in the form of a demonstration in 1991. This song shows how U2 is one of their reference bands.

For guitar riffs, which have remained in memory since the first time they heard them, is a riff in the chorus of the song "Headlong Journey (Quarantine)". For me, the guitar filling in this song is the most interesting.

In addition, Late Bloomers also presents one live recorded song,... Middle-aged Man's Song. This song enriches the realm of the song that THoS presents.

I feel that what THoS made through Late Bloomers is an authentic work of art from a group of artists. This album seems to want to show how to enjoy the work of the 1990s rock band in today's era.

"We don't know if other people like it or not, but what's important is what we like. Hopefully with what THoS is doing, our class bands who at that time participated in festivals between students and had their own works can collect again, band and release materials," said THoS personnel.

"Hopefully what THoS is doing can be a trigger for them, because if we can, they will definitely be able to."
