JAKARTA - SBS aired episode 5 of the Korean drama Racket Boys on Monday, June 14 yesterday. Unfortunately, the episode was marked by several criticisms, most of which came from Indonesian netizens.

Racket Boys is a Korean drama that tells the story of a badminton team in a high school that is on the verge of collapse. They recruit a new coach named Yoon Hyeon-Jong (Kim Sang Kyung) and are determined to bring the team to victory.

In the latest episode, the South Korean badminton team is competing in Jakarta, Indonesia. However, the South Korean badminton team received less favorable treatment. Starting from the discrimination of inter-country teams to the attitude of the Indonesian people who are described as making fun of other countries' teams.

Still from episode 5, the South Korean team practiced in a place that didn't have air conditioning. They were upset because the hosts could train at the stadium where they played.

Not to mention in one scene, the coach revealed his annoyance. One of the athletes who heard the words only replied that this was not the first time the Indonesian team had done this. As a result, netizens began to fill the SBS social media comment column to provide clarification.

“Even though the drama is good, why should there be a dropping dialogue? Sorry for the loss of respect", wrote one netizen.

"I think the dialogue in eps 5 is too excessive and doesn't describe the actual situation. When it comes to noisy audiences, it has become the hallmark of audiences from Indonesia and Istora. I think all world players will understand that including the South Korean national team", wrote another netizen.

"I don't think the scriptwriter has ever watched badminton in Indonesia, the atmosphere at Senayan is always enthusiastic and fun".

Racket Boys is the third SBS Korean drama to receive criticism. Previously, they had to stop the broadcast of Joseon Exorcist due to historical distortion issues.

Recently, they also apologized for the cultural appropriation in The Penthouse 3 by Alex's character, played by Park Eun Seok.
