YOGYAKARTA - Hindus celebrate Galungan Holy Day every 6 months based on the Bali calendar. Galungan Day is one of the religious days in Hinduism in Indonesia. So when is Galungan Day 2024 and what is the series of rituals or events like?

Galungan Day is interpreted as a holy day related to the victory of the dharma (good) against the bad (adharma). Celebrated every 6 months, this holy day falls on the Buddhist Day of Kliwon Dungulan or 2 times a year of the AD calendar.

Galungan holy day is celebrated twice every year. The celebration is held every 210 days or every six months following the Bali calendar called Wuku. This year, Galungan Day falls on Wednesday 28 February 2024 for the first celebration and 25 September 2024 for the second celebration.

The schedule and series of Galungan Day events in September 2024 have been determined by the Bali Provincial Government from the start. Based on the Circular (SE) of the Governor of Bali No. 7 of 2024, September 25 was officially designated as a Galungan celebration.

One day before Galungan, Hindus in Bali celebrated Galungan Spices. These two big days, namely Galungan and Galungan Spices, are celebrated with full fanfare by Hindus in Bali.

Galungan Holy Day has a very important meaning for Hindus, especially in Bali. Spiritually, Galungan symbolizes a dharma victory over adharma (untrue).
