YOGYAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has confirmed that the fire that hit three reserve train carriages (KA) in the Operation Area (Daop) 6 Yogyakarta will not interfere with train travel during the Lebaran homecoming flow. KAI has prepared a reserve fleet from other daops to anticipate a surge in passengers.

Deputy Executive Vice President (EVP) Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Nugroho Dwi Sasongko said that the train fire incident that occurred at Yogyakarta Tugu Station on Wednesday last week resulted in damage to two executive trains and one premium train.

"The three trains are reserves that we have prepared to anticipate disturbances during the Eid transportation period," said Nugroho, quoted by ANTARA.

Although three carriages at Yogyakarta Tugu Station were damaged, Nugroho emphasized that the readiness of the fleet for homecoming remained safe.

"For homecoming transportation later, we can get support from other daops as reserves. We realize that the number of passengers on daop 6 is quite high, both departing and arriving, so the allocation of fleets from KAI is safe enough for train trips during Eid this year," he added.

KAI also revealed that the perpetrators of the arson had a long track record of carrying out illegal acts in the railway environment. Since 2022, the perpetrators have been recorded as having been removed from the train nine times because they do not have a ticket.

In addition, he was also involved in vandalism, including trying to block rails with blocks in the Bekasi area and the motorcycle theft case at Palur Station.

"It is true, the perpetrator has a background for disgraceful actions. Based on our records, the perpetrator has been expelled nine times by the conductor because he does not have a ticket. In addition, he has also been involved in several acts of vandalism since 2022," Nugroho explained.
