Jakarta World Cinema Ready To Release 120 Films From 61 Countries

JAKARTA - The Jakarta World Cinema (JWC) international film festival in 2024 can be enjoyed offline in theaters and online through streaming platforms. This year, JWC 2024 will screen 120 films from 61 countries from 21 to 28 September 2024.

JWC Executive Director Frederica in a press conference in Jakarta, Thursday, August 22, said the number of films screened during this year's festival was twice as much compared to last year.

Film lovers can enjoy films presented by JWC 2024 in the CGV Grand Indonesia Jakarta cinema as well as online through the KlikFilm streaming platform. JWC 2024 organizers are also working with CGV to prepare four film screening auditoriums.

According to him, the increase in the number of film screening auditoriums from two last year to four years reflects the increasing public enthusiasm for the JWC.

JWC 2024 introduces First Feature Competition to encourage and appreciate new talents in the world of cinema.

This competition will screen 13 debut films from various countries to compete for the best director category and best film awards.

The competition judges include Indonesian film people such as Lola Amaria, Yosep Anggi Noen, and Makbul Mubarak.

In addition, festival visitors can participate in being judges by choosing films that are considered worthy of receiving the Audience Award.

"This year is a milestone for JWC with our first competition. We want to give the platform to new filmmakers to show their work to the world," said Frederica.

JWC Program Director Daniel Irawan said that First Feature Competition is expected to be a means to find and appreciate new talents in the film industry.

"We are sure that filmmakers who are members of this competition will bring a fresh new perspective and break down," he said.

JWC 2024 will open with the screening of the film The Substance by Coralie Fargeat, which has stolen attention at various international festivals, ending with the screening of Andrea Arnold's Bird film.

The festival will also be attended by international filmmakers whose works are screened and discussed at JWC 2024.

The filmmakers who will attend the festival include director of Hesitation Found Selman Nacar from Turkey, director of Brief History of a Family Jianjie Lin from China, and Nelicia Low, director Pierce from Singapore.
