JAKARTA - Finally Christopher Nolan brought home an Oscar through the film Oppenheimer after eight nominations in two decades made the film embedded in him.
Nolan also wrote and produced Oppenheimer, an epic three-hour history of making atomic bombs during World War II. This story follows the career of J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), from his efforts in Los Alamos to create weapons of mass destruction that ended the war and eventually fell from glory during the security clearance hearing.
Throughout his career as a director, Nolan was repeatedly nominated for Oscar, but always failed to win. He was nominated for 2000 Memento (screenwriter), 2010 Inception (best picture, screenwriting) and 2017 Dunkirk (best image, directing).
"To the Academy of new films over 100 years old. We don't know where this extraordinary journey will go afterward. But knowing that you think I'm a meaningful part of it means a lot to me," Nolan said in his winning speech.
In this year's directorial election, Nolan was nominated against Justine Triet (Anatomy of a Fall), Martin Scorsese (Killers of the Flower Moon), Yoorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things) and Jonathan Glazer (The Zone of Interest). Despite the tight competition, Nolan is a favorite to win because he has served in almost every ceremony of his predecessors, including the DGA Awards and the Golden Globes.
From the stage, he thanked a number of names, including his wife, Emma Thomas, producers and actors at Oppenheimer.
"Thanks to those who have trusted me throughout my career," he concluded.

Oppenheimer became the box office phenomenon with a revenue of 957 million USD globally and became the third largest film in 2023. The film won 13 Oscar nominations (including the best films), the most of all films at this year's ceremony.
