Oppenheimer And M3GAN Make Universal Pictures The Most Successful Production House 2023

JAKARTA - Competition for post-pandemic films is felt by the number of films released throughout 2023. Apparently, that year was dominated by Universal Pictures, which is known as the best-selling production house throughout 2023.

Thanks to 24 films released, Universal managed to get rid of Disney to second place. Several films including The Super Mario Bros. Movies, Oppenheimer, and M3GAN played a major role in increasing ticket sales globally.

This is special because Universal has won first place for the first time since 2015 Disney has always led the first position.

Disney is in second place with 17 films they released such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and The Little Mermaid.

However, for the first time, no Disney film has occupied the best-selling film. According to Variety's report, Barbie became the best-selling film in 2023 with IDR 21 trillion followed by The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Oppenheimer.

In addition, no Disney film has reached 1 billion dollars throughout 2023. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 reached 845 million dollars and became the only one that almost reached 1 billion.

On the other hand, Universal films do not always get success. Renfield, starring Nicolas Cage and Nicholas Hoult, only reached 26 million dollars globally.

Warner Bros. became the production house in third place with Barbie, The Nun II, and Wonka. Sony and Paramount haven't reported their earnings for 2023.

Sony made it to the box office with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse while Paramount with Mission: Impossible - Deadeckoning Part One.
