Winning a Grammy, Viola Davis Becomes the 18th EGOT Status Artist

JAKARTA - Viola Davis officially holds EGOT status after receiving a Grammy for the Best Audio Book, Narration, Storytelling category. With this, she became the 18th artist to receive an Academy Award, a Grammy, an Emmy Award, and a Tony Award.

Her victory was announced at the 65th Grammy Award ceremony which was held on Sunday, February 5, United States time.

"Oh Lord! I wrote this book to pay tribute to Viola for six years, to celebrate her life, her joy, her trauma, everything," said Viola Davis while accepting the award.

“And this is a meaningful journey. I just EGOT!” She continued.

Through her speech, Viola Davis also thanked her small family, namely her husband and son.

“Everyone who is part of my story, the best part, my love. You guys are my life and happiness, the best part in my book. Thank You!" She said again.

Thanks to her memoir, Finding Me, Viola Davis beat a number of musicians and actors in that category. They are Jamie Foxx, Mel Brooks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Questlove.

Viola Davis' journey to earn EGOT began in 2001 when she won best actress at the Tony Awards for her role in the musical King Hedley II. Then in 2010, he won the same category for the film Fences.

After receiving several nominations, Viola Davis won an Emmy Award in 2015 for her role on the series How to Get Away with Murder.

Viola Davis' victory was celebrated by the public, including fellow celebrities. Jennifer Hudson, a singer who also won EGOT status, shared Davis' moments and gave her appreciation.

"Wait!!!!! Viola Davis just became EGOT #18! Omg @violadavis you are everything! Congratulations on becoming a living LEGEND. Time to celebrate!!!” wrote Jennifer Hudson.
