UK Government Asks UK Netflix To Claim The Crown As Work Of Fiction

JAKARTA - The British government asked Netflix streaming service to claim The Crown series as a work of fiction.

Quoting Deadline today, November 29, the cultural secretariat of Oliver Dowden said the The Crown series cornered the kingdom because of historical forgery.

"(The Crown) is a well-produced work of fiction, like any other television series production, Netflix has to be clear about that," Dowden told The Mail.

He is worried that the public or the audience, who do not know this history, will think of the series as fact.

Directed by Peter Morgan, Netflix gave a warning in the series. However, the warning was only made when one of the episodes of The Crown was about to show Princess Diana's bulimia scene.

The warnings sent to The Crown have been experienced since the release of its fourth season. That same week, broadcaster ABC Australia said The Crown faked former prime minister Bob Hawke's remarks about the kingdom.

In the series, Bob Hawke is told to call the Queen a "pig" when in fact he never said that.

Likewise with Princess Diana's younger sibling, Charles Spencer was also worried that the audience would not be able to distinguish fiction from real. "A lot of Americans tell me they're watching The Crown like they're taking history class."

The Crown is a series that tells the story of the British empire. In its fourth season, The Crown focuses on the story of Princess Diana (Emma Corrin) who meets Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor) and becomes a member of the British Empire.

Meanwhile, Netflix has not responded to the UK government's request.
