Starring Naysilla Mirdad, The Movie Inang Is Inspired By Rabu Wekasan Myth

JAKARTA - Inang is a film that offers lessons about women's pregnancy and its relation to Javanese beliefs and traditions, Rabu Wekasan (last Wednesday in Shafar month, ed). The story of this film centers on the character Wulan (Naysila Mirdad) who is an ordinary supermarket employee.

However, the conflict started when Wulan found out that she was pregnant unexpectedly. Therefore, she finally met Santoso's family who were willing to adopt her baby in the future. However, oddity appeared when she lived with the family.

Wulan must fight to save her baby while fighting the evil forces that stand in her way. This film trailer also shows the bitter struggle of a mother to take over her life again.

The film Inang develops elements of Javanese myth, namely Rabu Wekasan or Rebo Wekasan which is the main inspiration for the storyline of this film. The film, which also stars Lydia Kandou, Dimas Anggara, Rukman Rosadi, Rania Putrisari, Totos Rasiti, Pritt Timothy, Emil Kusumo, is scheduled to be screened in all theaters in Indonesia on October 13, 2022.

Director Fajar Nugros explained that the reason for bringing up the Rabu Wekasan myth in the film Inang was due to the influence of his childhood experience while living in Yogyakarta.

"The Rabu Wekasan myth is based on the background because I was a child in Jogja. And Jogja is very attached to the occasional salvation so that we are safe. Doing certain rituals. That's for us who weren't born on an unlucky day," explained Fajar as quoted from ANTARA, some time ago.

"But one day I thought, if we were born on that unlucky day, then what kind of salvation should we do? And I think what my parents and people around me fear the most is Rebo Wekasan, which is the last Wednesday in the month of Safar," he continued.

"Interestingly, in the film 'Inang', we bring up stories about women and the power of parental love for their families, especially for their children with a traditional background that is very close to us. But maybe we don't realize it," added Susanti Dewi as Head of IDN Pictures.

"Inang" also had the opportunity to hold a World Premiere at the 2022 BIFAN event in Seoul, South Korea in July 2022.
