Hugh Jackman Recovers From COVID-19, Ready To Return To The Music Man

JAKARTA - Actor Hugh Jackman reports that he has recovered from a COVID-19 infection. On Thursday, January 6 local time announced he was returning to the Broadway stage to perform The Music Man.

Previously, Jackman tested positive for the COVID-19 virus on December 28, just days after his co-star, Sutton Foster, tested positive for COVID-19 and was replaced by a substitute. Jackman's condition caused several stages of The Music Man which he starred to be canceled.

"I'm really excited to be back in the theater. I'll be there today, doing the show tonight", Jackman said in a video he posted on his Twitter account.

In the one-minute video, Jackman can be seen walking his dog around a New York City park. The actor said it was the first time he had left the house after a 10-day quarantine.

The stage and film actors thanked all healthcare workers for their tireless efforts since the pandemic hit.

“I can't imagine how you guys are coping after two years of this grueling and never-ending event, which is COVID-19. The hospital is fighting again. And you guys just go on day after day taking care of so many people. I'm so, so grateful for everything you guys do", said Jackman.

The Hollywood Reporter said Friday, "The Music Man" was among several Broadway shows that were forced to be canceled last month due to the wave of the pandemic impacting the world.

The show was originally scheduled to open in fall 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic until it finally started holding preview shows on December 20.

Quoted from ANTARA, a few days after the show, the cast was infected with COVID-19, including Foster and Hugh Jackman who played the main characters in the stage "The Music Man".

At the time, producers announced via the Broadway production's social media that “The Music Man” was canceled until January 1, before eventually extending its shutdown again until January 5. After the two actors recovered, the preview show resumed until the official opening was scheduled for February 10.
