JAKARTA - The National Solidarity Movement Foundation (GSN) together with PT. Atthaya Kemi Mandiri distributed aid in the form of urea nitrea fertilizer and spray equipment (handsprayer) to farmers in Surawangi Village, Jatiwangi District, Majalengka Regency, Sunday, January 19.

As many as 10 tons of non-subsidized Nitrea Urea Plus fertilizer and 100 handsprayer units were given as a form of support for underprivileged farmers. Deputy Chairman of the GSN Foundation as well as Deputy Head of the Poverty Eradication Agency (BP Taskin), Nanik S. Deyang, revealed that this assistance is part of the foundation program founded by President Prabowo Subianto.

"This assistance has entered its fourth implementation. Every month, the GSN Foundation distributes 10 tons of fertilizer to underprivileged farmers," explained Nanik.

He also added that the fertilizer distributed has superior quality compared to ordinary urea and is a real effort to ease the burden on farmers. Similar programs have been running in a number of areas such as Banyumas, Magelang, Madiun, and now Majalengka.

"We ensure that this assistance is right on target by looking for farmers who really need it. As long as PT. Atthaya Kemi Mandiri has the ability to support, this program will continue," he said.

In addition, Nanik highlighted the importance of government support in the agricultural sector. According to him, President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that fertilizer subsidies be distributed directly from factories to Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), without going through distributors or depots.

"This policy is expected to facilitate farmers' access to subsidized fertilizers that have been difficult to obtain," said Nanik.

He also referred to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) which shows that the agricultural sector accounts for 40 percent of the total 25 million poor people in Indonesia.

"Protective fertilizer assistance from the private sector and government policies are strategic steps to overcome the main problem of farmers, namely the availability of fertilizers," he concluded.

Nanik is optimistic that this collaboration between the government and the private sector will support President Prabowo Subianto's great goal of realizing national food security.
