JAKARTA - Jazz Goes To Campus (JGTC) - The City Series, which was successfully held last April, is back with a special concept to be presented to Indonesian jazz music lovers.

For the second edition, JGTC - The City Series will be held again at the Grand Theater of Taman Ismail Marzuki, Central Jakarta, on Friday, July 31.

If the first edition focuses on the big band concept, this edition will switch to the jazz rock or fusion concept - a jazz subgenre that began to be developed in the late 1960s in the United States, and was so popular in Indonesia starting in the mid-1980s.

"This time, JGTC wants to present another type of species, namely jazz that is more fusion, jazz-rock," said Candra Darusman, Karimata's kibordis and initiator of JGTC, at a press conference in Senayan, Central Jakarta, Monday, July 27.

Two Indonesian jazz fusion icons, Karimata and Krakatau, were tapped to be the main performers. For the first time in almost four decades, they will collaborate on the same stage.

"Krakatau and Karimata are like brothers. These two bands appeared in the same period, and it was really fun at that time. Let's repeat the exciting moment here, at JGTC - The City Series," said Dwiki Dharmawan, Krakatau's kibordis.

To complement the collaboration between Karimata and Krakatau, several big singers from that era will be present, such as Harvey Malaiholo, Ricky Basuki, and Lydia Nursaid.

For information, JGTC - The City Series is held in order to welcome two important milestones that will occur next year, namely 50 years of Jazz Goes To Campus and 500 years of the City of Jakarta.

This series is not only bringing together two big names on one stage, but also a musical experience that summarizes the long journey of Indonesian jazz, combined with the distinctive Betawi nuances as a form of tribute to Jakarta which has entered its fifth century.

This concert is expected to be one of the most memorable music celebrations this year. Not only a nostalgic event for jazz lovers, but also a proof that Indonesian jazz continues to grow, able to dialogue with local culture, and remain relevant for the new generation.

Through Jazz Goes To Campus - The City Series Vol. 2, JGTC once again confirms its commitment as one of the drivers of the Indonesian jazz ecosystem.

In line with the main theme carried this year, JGTC invites the public to celebrate the journey of a city and a festival that has grown together for decades - because jazz not only expands, but moves with the city.
