JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has checked the availability of fish at the Karangsong Fishery Port (PP), Indramayu, West Java to ensure sufficient supplies to meet public demand during Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijriah.

"The results of the check, catch fisheries production are monitored to be safe and sufficient at a stable price," said Director General of Capture Fisheries of the KKP Lotharia Latif on the sidelines of reviewing fishery activities at PP Karangsong, as received in Jakarta, Saturday.

He conveyed that his party continues to monitor all fishing centers to ensure fish stocks are safe ahead of Eid.

In addition, services at fishing ports will also continue to be optimized until D-1 Lebaran and will return to operation D+2 Lebaran.

"We will make sure that the fish stock is safe, the quality of fish is safe at controlled prices, so that fish can become processed delicious when gathering with family later when the moment of Eid arrives," said Latif.

Latif also had a dialogue with fishermen at PP Karangsong who expressed their aspirations regarding the availability of industrial-scale fuel oil (BBM) at special prices for fishermen and proposals for additional cold storage for fish storage.

Responding to this, Latif said the need for cross-sectoral coordination to ensure the availability of sufficient fuel for fishermen at the appropriate price.

In addition, he admitted that his party would also coordinate with the Directorate General of Strengthening Competitiveness for Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) of the KKP regarding the support for additional frozen warehouses with a capacity of 5,000 tons.

"We will develop and improve this in stages, of course, to improve services to fishing communities. The government will always be present for fishermen," he said.

Furthermore, he said that other developments needed by PP Karangsong include the construction and dredging of fishery port pools and improvements to breakwater to support fishing ship activities.
