RI-Japan Strengthen Cooperation In The Transportation Sector

JAKARTA Indonesia and Japan continue to strengthen and strengthen cooperation in the transportation sector.

Japan itself has been involved in transportation projects in Indonesia, ranging from the development of railway systems, the development of human resources, to the exchange of knowledge in the field of technology.

This was revealed by the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, when he met with the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Yasushi Masaki, at the Ministry of Transportation Office, Jakarta, Monday, December 2.

Dudy explained that the collaboration between the Ministry of Transportation with the Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) was also strengthened through the signing of the Transporation Sector Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on January 19, 2024.

"We hope to increase more intensive cooperation with Japan, especially in the development of the MRT Jakarta, Patimban Port, and Bekasi Proving Ground projects," he said in an official statement, Monday, December 2.

Regarding the Jakarta MRT project, Dudy hopes that with the support of the Japanese Ambassador, the MRT project can run smoothly and according to plan, so that it can improve the connectivity of the Jabodetabek area.

"I hope that with the support of the Japanese Ambassador, the Jakarta MRT project can run smoothly and in accordance with the targets we have agreed on together. In addition to the MRT development, I also hope that the connectivity of the Jabodetabek area can be improved through the integration of the main route with feeder services," he explained.

In addition to a number of developments in infrastructure projects, Dudy also conveyed the potential for future cooperation between the two countries related to the development of human resources (HR) transportation through internship program cooperation.

Among them are student exchanges and teachers from schools or polytechnics under the Ministry of Transportation, or guest lecturers programs from Japanese experts in the transportation sector. This aims to provide international experience that can enrich their skills and insight in the transportation sector," he said.
