Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources Notes Minerba's Contribution To GDP 2023 Capai Rp2,198 Trillion

JAKARTA - The mineral and coal sector (minerba) made a significant contribution to Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the sector's contribution reached Rp2,198 trillion or 10.5 percent of Indonesia's total GDP of Rp20,892 trillion.

"The mining and excavation sub-sector contributed Rp2,198 trillion or 10.5 percent of the total GDP in Indonesia. This value is very significant and we must maintain it and even increase it," said Director General of Mineral and Coal, Tri Winarno, quoted Thursday, November 28.

The huge contribution to economic growth caused by the mining sector is in line with Asta Cita, which is the government's priority program, namely prioritizing national security, namely food security, energy security and continuing the downstream program. The government also targets economic growth growth during the 2025-2029 period of 8 percent.

"Management of minerals and coal must really provide maximum benefits for the Indonesian nation," he said.

On that occasion, Tri also reminded the importance of balance between exploitation of natural resources and environmental conservation. According to him, environmental issues are now the world's main concern, so business actors in the mineral and coal sector must apply the principle of sustainable development.

"The current global issue of mining requires us not only to focus on profit, but also to pay attention to people and planets," said Tri.

Although the contribution of the mineral and coal sector to GDP is quite large. Tri reminded that future challenges are not easy. In the midst of the global spotlight on environmental issues and energy transitions, this sector must be able to adapt to stricter international standards, especially related to sustainability.

"Management of minerals and coal must contribute and not have a negative impact," Tri concluded.
