JAKARTA - PT Timah Industri expressed its support for the government's initiative through the Ministry of Industry to form the Material Center.
Director of PT Timah Industri, Amin Haris said, his party welcomed the government's move to initiate this raw material center to become the parent of well-coordinated innovation and distribution of raw materials.
"We fully support this strategic step, because it will have a good impact on the domestic copper and tin industries," said Amin, Friday, November 8.
According to Amin, the strengthening of raw materials through the Material Center will increase the absorption of tin and copper metals in the country.
"Through the Material Center, it is hoped that it can support the increase in the absorption of our production lead downstream product, PT Timah Industri, namely tin solder and tin chemical, thereby increasing added value in the country," said Amin.
It is known, the Ministry of Industry continues to strengthen downstreaming and increase the competitiveness of the national copper and lead industries which have an important role in supporting downstream industries.
The Ministry of Industry's Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE), Setia Diarta, said that the formation of the Material Center for copper and tin was aimed at distributing and parent innovation.
"This Material Center will support downstreaming, reduce dependence on imports of raw materials, and strengthen the efficiency of supply chains so that it can encourage the growth of high value product exports," said Setia.

Setia said, one of the main challenges in the copper and tin industry is to reduce dependence on raw material exports. Currently, most of Indonesia's copper is exported in the form of a low value concentrate.
However, starting January 1, 2025, copper concentrate and anode mud will be banned from export. This is an effort to continue to push further downstreaming. On the other hand, lead is widely exported in the form of pure metal lead bars.
Downstream must be the main focus to produce products with higher added value, such as copper cathodes, tin plates, and other downstream products. This will also strengthen Indonesia's position as a major player in the international market," he said.
