During 2024, KAI Closes 15 Illegal Crossings In Semarang

PT KAI has closed 15 level crossings without latches and without guards in various areas in Daop 4 Semarang, Central Java, during the period January to August 2024.

" proactively, PT KAI closed a level crossing to support the safety of train travel," said Public Relations Manager of PT KAI Daop 4 Semarang Franoto Wibowo as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 19.

According to him, in the Daop 4 Semarang area, there are 372 level crossings spread across various regions in these areas.

Of this number, he continued, 139 crossings were not guarded or doord.

He said traffic accidents at level crossings this year increased compared to last year.

He revealed, until September 2024 there were 22 incidents with the number of victims who died reaching 13 people.

This number is higher than the previous year which reached 12 incidents with 10 people dead or injured.

He emphasized that PT KAI together with relevant stakeholders carried out socialization and education about traffic discipline at level crossings.

"Both at guarded and unguarded crossings, road users must ensure that no train will pass," he said.

Meanwhile, in the socialization of safety at the section of Jalan Madukoro, Semarang City, PT KAI provides souvenirs for motorists who have traffic order.

In addition, the Semarang Polrestabes Traffic Unit, which participated in the activity, also took action against motorists who committed traffic violations.
