BPS Records A Labor Force In Aceh Reaches 2.6 Million People Until February 2024

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the workforce in Aceh Province reached 2.6 million people as of February 2024, and 2.4 million people or 94.4 percent of them with working status, while the rest were unemployed.

"In February 2024 the number of workforces in Aceh increased by 667 people compared to February 2023," said Head of BPS Aceh Ahmadriswan Nasution as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 9.

Riswan said, based on the Aceh employment diagram in February 2024, there were 4 million people in Aceh who were working age, namely residents aged 15 years and over.

Of this number, 64.15 percent of Aceh's population is included in the workforce, namely 2.6 million people, while the other 35.85 percent are non-workforce residents, namely 1.4 million people.

According to him, the composition shows that most of the working-age population in the province nicknamed Tanah Rencong is ready to enter the labor market.

"It can be seen with the high workforce which reaches 64.15 percent of the total working age population," he said.

He explained that the workforce consisted of people who worked and were unemployed. Meanwhile, it is not the workforce, namely residents who do not carry out economic activities such as going to school, taking care of their homes, or others.

He said, for working residents, namely residents who are working, and residents who are temporarily not working.

"Meanwhile, unemployment includes people looking for jobs, residents who prepare businesses, residents who feel it is impossible to get jobs or give up hope and residents who already have jobs but have not started working yet," he said.

Riswan added that working is an economic activity carried out by a person to earn income, at least an hour in a row and accumulatively for the past week.

"The number of people working in Aceh in February 2024 was 2.4 million, an increase of 5,000 people compared to February 2024," he also said.

Currently, he said, the number of male workers in Indonesia's westernmost province is more than for women, which is 1.5 million male workers or about 63.36 percent of the total working age population.

"Meanwhile, 899,624 female workers or about 36.64 percent," concluded Riswan.
