PT PLN (Persero) is ready to provide green electricity for fashion companies PT Fast Retailing Indonesia (UNIQLO) at 8,978 megawatt hours (MWh) through the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) service.

The collaboration in providing PLN's REC marks the company's full support for the decarbonization of the Indonesian industrial sector.

PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, said the REC is a PLN service that makes it easier for customers to use New and Renewable Energy (EBT) in a transparent, accountable and globally recognized manner. Each REC certificate proves that the electricity used comes from an EBT generator.

"We appreciate UNIQLO for taking the initiative to use PLN green electricity in an effort to support the energy transition and sustainability of the fashion industry in the country. We are also committed to providing the best green electricity service through REC," Darmawan said in a written statement, quoted on Saturday, July 6, 2024.

Darmawan emphasized that the use of the PLN REC will also be an important collaboration in the journey to achieve Net Zero Emissions (NZE) in 2060. PLN will continue to encourage various parties to play an active role in realizing reducing carbon emissions, one of which is through the REC service.

On the same occasion, General Manager of PLN Jakarta's Main Distribution Unit (UID), Lasiran, also appreciated UNIQLO's steps in using PLN green electricity for all UNIQLO offices and tenants in Indonesia. According to him, collaboration of all parties is needed to achieve the energy transition program.

Lasiran hopes that UNIQLO's move can be an example for other companies in using environmentally friendly electricity.

"UNIQLO's initiative shows a high awareness of the importance of clean energy. We hope more companies follow suit," he said.

Meanwhile, UNIQLO's Sustainability & Corporate PR Manager, Yulia Rachmawati, said that her party has a commitment to encourage the use of renewable new energy (EBT) which is UNIQLO's commitment to sustainability.

"In accordance with the value of the sustainability pillar, of course we are committed to using renewable energy in all of our stores in Indonesia. This is part of one of our efforts to contribute to the environment and planets to create a better life for everyone," he said.
