Batam PLN Adjusts Electricity Tariffs For 11 Customer Groups

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has set an adjustment to the electricity tariff or Tariff Adjustment of PT. PLN Batam, which since 2017 has never implemented a tariff adjustment.

This tariff adjustment applies to Some groups of customers, including the capable household, business, medium industry, and the government, this is due to changes in macro-economic parameters, inflation, and the latest primary energy prices.

Direktur Jenderal Ketenagalistrikan Jisman P. Hutajulu mengatakan bahwa parameter ekonomi makro yang digunakan untuk tariff adjustment triwulan III 2024 telah berubah signifikan dari persumption ekonomi tahun 2017.

"These changes include exchange rates of Rp. 15,656.22 per US dollar from Rp. 13,300 per US dollar, gas prices of 6.39 dollars per MMBTU from 5.8 US dollars per MMBTU, and coal prices of 65.90 US dollars per tonne from 58 US dollars per ton," he said in Jakarta, Friday, June 28.

The implementation of the tariff adjustment in the third quarter of 2024, PT PLN Batam, between 6.00-9.83 percent, only targeted 11 out of 23 customer groups.

Jisman said the government was very careful in implementing tariff adjustments while maintaining industrial competitiveness in Batam so that some Batam tariff groups were still below the Basic Cost of Providing electricity (BPP).

Jisman revealed that PLN Batam was required to be more independent because it did not receive subsidies and compensation from the Government as applied to PT PLN (Persero). Electric power rates for household customers 450 VA & 900 VA and social customers up to 2,200 VA are applied the same as national tariffs that receive subsidies from the Government, so that if there is no implementation of tariff adjustments, then the difference in the Cost of Basic Electricity Supply will be borne by PLN Batam.

With the implementation of the tariff adjustment, added Jisman, PT PLN Batam received a margin of 3.04 percent which was previously still negative. This can further encourage PT PLN Batam to increase reliability and service to the community, and he asked PT PLN Batam to increase operational efficiency.

"We still ask PLN Batam to increase operational efficiency so that it can maintain the sustainability of the provision of electricity businesses in Batam," he said.
