JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Sepaku Semoi Dam in the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan, today.

Jokowi said the construction of the dam had been started four years ago and was completed this year.

"Alhamdulillah, this afternoon we will immediately inaugurate the Sepaku Semoi Dam which has been started in 2020 and completed in 2024," Jokowi said when inaugurating the Sepaku Semoi Dam in North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, as monitored via the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Tuesday, June 4.

He added that the cost for the construction of the dam reached Rp. 836 billion.

The Sepaku Semoi Dam has a capacity of up to 16 million cubic meters of water with an inundation area of 322 hectares (ha).

In the future, said Jokowi, the dam will be a source of raw water for drinking water at IKN and mostly for the City of Balikpapan.

"And by saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, this afternoon I inaugurate the Sepaku Semoi Dam in North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province," he added.

The Sepaku Semoi Dam is included in the Batch 1 infrastructure work at IKN, which is a contracted package from 2020-March 2023.

The Sepaku Semoi Dam itself can supply raw water needs of 2,500 liters per second, with details of 2,000 liters per second for IKN Nusantara and the remaining 500 liters per second for Balikpapan.
