12 Banks Closed Within 5 Months, LPS Boss Gives Explanation

JAKARTA - The Deposit Insurance Corporation noted that within 5 months there were 12 People's Credit Banks (BPR) that were closed.

The chairman of the LPS Board of Commissioners, Purbaya Yudhi Sadivewa, explained that the closing of some of the BPRs did not indicate a deteriorating economy.

"In the last 5 months, 12 BPRs have been closed, this is more than the management's weakness or the banking crime committed by BPR administrators," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, Sealsa, May 28.

Purbaya said that his party continues to monitor the condition of all BPRs that are still operating in Indonesia and until now the BPR-BPR conditions have been monitored in good health.

"We are carefully monitoring the health conditions of the BPR-BPR, for now it is monitored in a healthy condition, but what is certain is that in the future we will always be ready if the OJK submits the BPR to the LPS if there are problems with the BPR," he said.

For information, there are still 1562 BPR/BPRRS operating throughout Indonesia. This indicates that there are still many healthy BPRs and play a role in helping the community's economy with various interesting product innovations.

It is known that some time ago the LPS had also prepared a process of paying the claim for deposit guarantee and the implementation of liquidation of the Jepara Artha BPR to be revoked by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) starting on May 21, 2024.

Member of the Board of Commissioners for the Deposit and Resolution Guarantee Program of Bank Didik Madiyono has carried out a reconciliation process for 11 other BPRs.

Didik said, LPS had completed 100 percent of the reconciliation process for 5 BPRs.

"We note here that the 5 BPRs have completed the reconstruction process, so 100 percent has been completed and it is possible that the dropping has been sent to the bank payer, only the customer takes it from the bank," he said.

The 5 BPRs that have been completed are BPR Wijaya Kusuma in Madiun, BPR EDC Cash Tangerang, BPR North Aceh, BPR 9 Mutiara in Pasaman, and BPR Saka Dana Mulia in Kudus.

While the rest have been reconciled with the progress of more than 90 percent.

"BPR Jepara Arta was just revoked last week and currently it is only the verification reconciliation process and this week we will complete phase 1 verification reconciliation and will be announced to BPR customers Jepara Atha," concluded Didik.
