Member Of Commission VII DPR Urges Government To Close Chinese Companies With Illegal Steel Production

JAKARTA - Member of Commission VII DPR RI, Mulyanto, asked the Government to immediately revoke the business licenses of 40 Chinese companies that were proven to produce illegal steel.

He also asked the government not to selectively enforce legal rules, considering the consequences of the circulation of illegal steel is very dangerous for consumer security and can also harm other steel companies that comply with laws and regulations.

"We need foreign investment, but quality investment so that it can move the national economy, instead of causing complications for the domestic economy," said Mulyanto, Monday, April 29.

Mulyanto also asked all relevant ministries to immediately coordinate and make a firm decision, namely revoking the operating license of companies that produce illegal steel. If necessary, investigate which parties are backing up this illegal practice.

"Because it is not impossible that there are other procedures that are violated by these companies so that they dare to produce steel that is not in accordance with Indonesian standards," said Mulyanto.

Furthermore, he also urged the government to be serious in responding to this violation.

"Don't because you want to boost the arrival of foreign investment The government seems permissive, allows whatever investors ask, as long as it is willing to establish a business in Indonesia," he said.

He considered that such a mindset was very dangerous because it indirectly favored state sovereignty to foreign companies. In the end, it is very detrimental to society and the state.

"Problemous investment cases from China often appeared previously, especially in the nickel smelter industry," he said.

Previously, there were at least 40 companies from China reportedly producing illegal steel or steel that did not meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

These steel are produced using induction methods that are not permitted in China or in Indonesia.

The production process of illegal steel is considered dangerous for consumer environmental sustainability and security.
