JAKARTA - PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Tbk (CPIN), a company in the poultry industry, has installed a solar power plant (PLTS) to start the company's move to transition to new and renewable energy (EBT).

The PLTS installation was carried out in collaboration with solar energy developer SUN Energy.

"Installation of PLTS with this long-term cooperation scheme with SUN Energy, we believe it can be part of the solution to the challenges of global climate change," said General Manager of Production Charoen Pokphand Indonesia Aditya Taufiq Wibowo in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, March 15.

The PLTS was installed in one of the Plants of PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia - Food Division in Salatiga, Central Java, with a capacity of 1.5 MWp.

The use of solar energy is estimated to be able to produce 1,508,458 kWh of electricity every year equivalent to a reduction of 1,178 tons of carbon emissions and planting 17,676 trees.

Aditya said the company believed the initiative would have a direct impact on Charoen Pokphand's sustainability efforts.

"We see the importance of the meaning of sustainability in order to be able to provide a good environment for future generations of the nation. For this reason, we strive to realize environmentally friendly business practices," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy CEO of SUN Energy Dion Jefferson explained that the PLTS system is able to increase energy efficiency in various sectors, including the poultry industry.

Charoen Pokphand is the second company in the poultry sector to cooperate with SUN Energy in implementing PLTS.

Dion hopes that the installation of the PLTS system by Charoen Pokphand can be a reference for other companies that want to produce low-emission electricity, as well as offer cost savings through the rental scheme offered by SUN Energy.

"This innovative step affirms CPIN's commitment to sustainability and contributes to a wider transition to clean energy practices in the Indonesian industrial landscape," said Dion.
