JAKARTA - The mandatory application of halal certificates will be extended not only to food and beverage commodities, but also to medicinal products to cosmetics. This includes machinery to production supporting equipment.

Meanwhile, based on Government Regulation (PP) number 39 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of the Halal Product Guarantee Sector, as of October 17, 2024, halal certificates must be applied to food and beverage products; raw materials, additional food ingredients, and auxiliary materials for food and beverage products; as well as slaughter products and slaughter services.

President Director of PT Surveyor Indonesia (PTSI), Sandry Pasambun explained that the discourse of expanding the mandatory halal certification was carried out to ensure that all parts of the food and beverage supply chain met the halal aspect.

"In 2025, this halal product is not only for food and drinks, but also for other supporting equipment such as containers, it must also be ensured that they are halal, as well as equipment for machines, lubricants," Sandry said at the PTSI office, quoted Tuesday, December 31.

Meanwhile, the Commercial Director of PTSI, Saifuddin Wijaya, said that halal obligations will also be applied to cosmetic products to medicines. Halal understanding, he continued, is a criterion that must be met.

Saifuddin said that based on Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee (UU JPH), specifically for cosmetic products, halal certificates must be obtained starting October 17, 2026.

"This understanding of halal is increasingly here, becoming a criterion that must be met by food and beverage producers, including cosmetics, medicines, which are included in the criteria that must be halal," said Saifuddin.
