JAKARTA - The Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (Kemenkop UKM) is optimistic that the revision of the Cooperative Draft Law (RUU) will continue to be completed in 2024.

The reason is, this Cooperative Bill has been submitted by the government to the leadership of the DPR RI through the Presidential Letter of the Republic of Indonesia as of September 19, 2023.

Now, the government and Commission VI of the DPR RI are waiting to be able to immediately discuss the Bill on the Third Amendment to Law Number 25 of 1992 concerning Cooperatives.

Deputy for Cooperatives of the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs Ahmad Zabadi said the discussion of the Cooperative Bill was waiting for the DPR RI Deliberative Body (Bamus) to assign Commission VI to form a Working Committee for the Cooperative Bill.

"For this reason, we hope that the Cooperative Bill can be passed into law in 2024, because it is very much needed to organize a conducive ecosystem for the growth and development of Indonesian cooperatives," said Zabadi to VOI, Tuesday, March 5.

Zabadi hopes that after the bustle of the legislative and presidential elections is completed in the not too distant future, the DPR-RI can allocate time and thoughts to discuss the Cooperative Bill.

He also asked the public to follow the process of discussing the Cooperative Bill in the DPR RI in 2024.

"We hope that the mass media can help so that the discussion of the Cooperative Bill can be accelerated, because it becomes the foundation for building Indonesian cooperatives in the future," he added.

As previously reported, Suroto Cooperative Observers assessed that the government to ratify the regulation was just a false promise.

"The government's promise which has repeatedly targeted the immediate ratification of the Cooperative Law is only an empty message," Suroto told VOI, Wednesday, February 28.

Based on his records, since Teten Masduki served as Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs (Menkop UKM), the government has promised 11 times to target the ratification of the regulation. However, it always fails and repeats itself.

In addition, Suroto said, Minister Teten Masduki was not serious in managing cooperative policies.

"If it is serious, actually important articles, such as the development of cooperative-specific Deposit Insurance Corporations, tax distingsion and so on, can actually be done through the ratification of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, the Omnibus Law on Strengthening and Development of the Financial Sector (PPSK) and the Omnibus Law on Tax Harmonization," he said.

According to him, it feels strange that there are articles that regulate cooperatives and are added, for example, about coaching. However, articles that are important to remove discrimination against cooperatives so far have not been carried out.
