New History, Waqf Affairs For The First Time Entered The Visions Of Presidential And Vice Presidential Candidates In 2024

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Waqf Agency (BWI) said that the matter of waqf has entered a new era. Because, for the first time the term waqf is included in the vision and mission of the presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs in 2024.

Deputy Chairman of BWI Imam Teguh Saptono said this was a new chapter in Indonesia's history.

"The national waqf is included in a new chapter in Indonesia's history, why is it in Indonesian history? Because this is the first time the word waqf has been included in the vision and mission of the vice presidential candidate throughout Indonesia's history," said Imam at the 2024 Workshop and National Working Meeting of the Indonesian Waqf and Zakat Journalists Forum (Forjukafi) in Jakarta, Saturday, February 24.

With these conditions, Imam is optimistic that later waqf will enter the main flow of the national economy.

"So, this is a sign that waqf is starting to enter and stream in Indonesia," he said.

Imam said the presidential and vice presidential candidates who included waqf affairs in their vision and mission, namely pair number 01, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and pair number 02 Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

"So, pair 01 will make Bank Syariah a nazir or waqf manager and pair 02 will build a Waqf Bank," he said.

According to Imam, the goal is to encourage the sharia economy on the basis of academic tests.

"This means that we will enter an era where the government's commitment to the future will be extraordinary in national waqf," he added.
