JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita met with representatives of Apple at the Ministry of Industry office, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
Apple's representative in question is Apple's Vice President of Global Policy Nick Amman and his entourage.
Agus alluded to investments made by other mobile phone manufacturers in Indonesia, such as Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi.
Initially, he said, several principles of justice so that the iPhone 16 could be sold in Indonesia.
The first principle is how much Apple invests in other countries, such as in India and Vietnam.
Then, how much investment from other mobile phone, handheld computer and tablet (HKT) manufacturers in Indonesia.
"Just call the Samsung company in Indonesia how much has been invested, how much is Huawei, how much has Xiaomi and so on, that's the second fair," said Agus, quoted on Wednesday, January 9.
The third fair principle is how much added value was created. In addition, how much income the state will receive from the investment.
Agus added, for the fourth principle and becoming the most important, namely job creation in Indonesia.
He emphasized that although the proposal between the Ministry of Industry and Apple is currently underway, there will not necessarily be an agreement.
This means that the iPhone 16 product does not necessarily immediately get a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certificate.
"We have set no time frame. Can be done deal today, can be done deal tonight, can be done deal tomorrow, can be done next week's deal, can be next month," said Agus.
"So, we didn't set the time. The target we set was the substance," he concluded.
