The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) strengthens cooperation in the medical device industry sector with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

DHA itself is part of the Dubai regional government that oversees health sector services and oversees dozens of leading clinics and hospitals in the region.

The Director General of Metal, Machinery, Transportation Equipment and Electronics (ILMATE) of the Ministry of Industry, Taufiek Bawazier, hopes that this collaboration can open up opportunities for Indonesian medical device industries to expand their export share to Dubai.

"Domestic industries have the ability to produce high-quality and export standard medical devices, such as hospital furniture products, syringes, electronic diagnostic appARatus to oxygen therapy machines. These products have penetrated the international market with an export value throughout 2023 reaching 209.4 million US dollars," said Taufiek in a written statement received by VOI, Wednesday, January 31.

In the 2024 Arab Health exhibition, the Ministry of Industry invited 19 domestic medical device industries to showcase its various superior products.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry also held a Health Equipment Business Forum as an opportunity to provide explanations and information regarding the capabilities and quality of Indonesian medical device products in the eyes of the world.

For example, the operating table produced by PT Mega Andalan Kalasan (MAK) from Yogyakarta which has been exported to 51 countries, including Tanzania and the Czech Republic.

This makes Dubai, which is an international hub, an important role in increasing the export of medical device products. Likewise, the product of syringes made by PT Oneject Indonesia, which has a production capacity of 1.2 billion units per year and has been exported to African countries.

In a series of events in Dubai, Taufiek also met with Special Advisor DHA Younis Mohammed Kazim and discussed the potential for medical devices from Indonesia to cooperate with health authorities in Dubai.

Kazim said that Dubai has 52 international standard hospitals and will build at least four new hospitals this year.

"I believe the medical device industry in Indonesia will develop rapidly in the future. Moreover, if you look at Indonesia's potential with a population of 270 million people. Dubai has similarities with Indonesia in the development of its health sector and I believe Indonesia is also able to succeed in managing health services for its citizens," he said.

Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates Government in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Indonesia will build the Emirates-Indonesia Cardiology Hospital in Solo Technopark which is a form of the commitment of the two countries to support each other in creating health services.

The establishment of the hospital aims to make it easier for residents around the Central Java and Yogyakarta regions to access health facilities, especially related to heart health.

The hospital will be built with a capacity of 100 beds or beds and operated specifically for heart/cardiovascular specialization, which is expected to be operational in October 2024.

In the construction of these facilities, it is also hoped that the Indonesian medical device industry can participate, especially in the provision of health care supporting facilities and infrastructure, such as hospitality beds, operating tables to technological equipment.
