KKP Will Prepare Shrimp Estate In NTT, Project Value Reaches IDR 7 Trillion

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) plans to develop a large-scale shrimp farming program or cultivation scheme in Indonesia in 2024.

The KKP plans to develop a shrimp estate in the Waingapu area, Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Spokesperson for the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Wahyu Muryadi said the KKP would use the local government's unproductive land (Pemda).

"That's right (shrimp estate was developed) in Waingapu, East Sumba, NTT. Using unproductive land there," Wahyu told VOI, Thursday, January 25.

Wahyu said that the KKP would start developing the shrimp estate work in October.

"The project value is around Rp. 7 trillion. It is hoped that before October 2024 the process of construction can begin," he said.

According to Wahyu, the development of shrimp estate in the area will not interfere with the mangrove ecosystem.

This is because the land to be used does not have the mangrove forest.

"If in Waingapu it will not damage the environment because it has implemented a standard of sustainable fish cultivation according to a feasibility study. And there is no mangrove forest," he added.

For your information, the shrimp estate itself is a large-scale shrimp cultivation scheme where the upstream to downstream process is located in one area.

The production process is also supported by technology so that yields are more optimal, prevent disease and are more environmentally friendly.

This is expected in accordance with the concept of integrated cultivation, namely with the upstream-hilir concept approach, regional-based and zero-waste aquaculture corporations, downstream cultivation products, modern acculture 4.0 and integrated management of shrimp pond cultivation areas by involving all elements, both central and local governments, the community and the private sector.

The KKP has built a shrimp estate in Kebumen, Central Java, in 2023.

Kebumen Regency was chosen as a modeling for shrimp estate because it has a fairly good potential for shrimp pond areas.

The Shrimp estate was built on an area of 100 hectares (ha).

60 percent of the construction of the shrimp estate has been realized, which is around 60 ha containing 149 pond plots that are equipped with the main infrastructure.

These infrastructures include water intake, reservoirs, maintenance plots, IPAL channels, laboratories, feed warehouses, production facilities warehouses, post-harvest buildings, generator houses, pond guard houses and production roads.
