Telecommunications Infrastructure At IKN Targeted To Operate August 2024

The Capital Archipelago Authority (OIKN) targets telecommunications infrastructure in IKN to be ready and operational in August this year.

"Everything must be ready for operation in August 2024," said Deputy for Facilities and Infrastructure of OIKN Silvia Hakim to reporters in Jakarta, Monday, January 15.

Silvia said that telecommunications infrastructure in IKN adopted a principle or strategy known as shared infrastructure of telecommunication or joint infrastructure with telecommunications. This means that the provision of telecommunication infrastructure such as fiber optic networks, base transceiver station towers (BTS) and so on is carried out by one or two business entities that are set and later it can be used together by other telecommunication service business entities.

"So, physically one is provided by one business entity, but later those who use it can be crowded. So, business entities are welcome to carry out business to business (b2b) of anyone with infrastructure providers that we have determined so that they can be utilized," he said.

He admitted that his party had carried out the selection process on a limited basis in 2022, because it was from the aspect of time urgency.

"So, we did a limited group of telecommunications business entities, which first had a permit when we started the process," he said.

Then the business entity already has its physical infrastructure in East Kalimantan Province, especially in North Penajam Paser Regency.

"We have run the process and finally we were able to determine two business entities, namely PT Telkom Indonesia and Icon Plus to provide telecommunication infrastructure in the form of fiber optic networks and BTS towers, so that all other business entities can cooperate with them," he said.

This is based on the Circular of the Head of the Archipelago Capital Authority of the Republic of Indonesia Number 011/SE/Head-Operator of IKN/X/2023 concerning Technical Guidelines for the Joint Utilization of Telecommunication Infrastructure in the Central Core Area of the Government Sub-District for Planning, IA, the Capital of the Archipelago, implementation of telecommunications at IKN applies the concept of joint utilization of telecommunication infrastructure.

By implementing the concept of joint utilization of telecommunications infrastructure, there is efficiency in the use of spatial planning as well as supervision and control of telecommunications operations.
