Ketum Fatayat NU: Santri Perempuan Support Erick Thohir Continues Corruption Eradication

JAKARTA - The move of the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir (ET), in uncovering various cases of fraud in state-owned companies has attracted support, including from female students. General Chairperson of Fatayat Nahdlatul Ulama (Fatayat NU) Margaret Aliyatul Maimunah who was met on Monday, October 9 said Erick Thohir's move deserves the support of the community, including female NU students.

Margaret underlined that the aspirations of NU women are in line with the aspirations of the audience in Indonesia, namely to get leadership from public figures who have a 'clean' track record and consistently support the eradication of corruption.

Integrity is urgently needed by the leaders of the people. Integrity is part of moral al-karim, noble character. So, if there is a clean-up action within the government based on moral philosophy, we will definitely fully support it," said Margaret.

This female activist also explained that the spirit of change carried out by Fatayat at the Fatayat Festival, Apple Akbar, and National Working Meeting, which was just held from September 29 to October 1.

"The phenomenon of cleaning up, the spirit of anti-corruption, the two of them related to the spirit of change that we echoed at Fatayat's big event some time ago. We, women's students NU, and Indonesian women in general, must participate or at least support if there is an initiative to change for the better people and Indonesia," he added.

Not only appreciating Erick Thohir's breakthrough, which is predicted to be a strong candidate for vice president, Margaret also encourages other public figures to compete in performance and professionalism in building people and the nation.

"NU pesantren women are waiting for the next breakthrough for improvement and eradication of corruption in Indonesia," he concluded.

Fatayat NU is one of the autonomous bodies of Nahdlatul Ulama, which has been destined since 1950 in Surabaya. Fatayat has a deep-rooted organization, with the management structure touching to villages and sub-districts in 34 Regional Leaders and 680 Branch Leaders in Indonesia.

In empowering female students and alumni of NU students, Fatayat initiated many activities in the fields of da'wah, social, and economics. In recent years, Fatayat has also provided its members with support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), as well as activities related to health and sustainability, namely stunting education and waste bank assistance.
