JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office has named three suspects in the alleged corruption case in the management of the non-metallic mineral mining PT Putraprima Mineral Mandiri (PMM), after finding evidence of manipulation of rare earth metal content for export purposes.

Director of Investigation at the Attorney General's Office for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi said the three suspects were IS as representative of PT PMM, GP as Head of the Pangkalpinang Service Unit of PT Sucofindo, and JK as Head of the Customs and Excise Supervision and Service Office of the Customs Type C Pangkalpinang.

"We are working with the Forest Area Control Task Force (PKH) and following up on the task force's findings. After a series of examinations, the investigation team named three suspects," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 8.

Syarief explained that the suspects were suspected of manipulating the content of rare earth metals in the export of ilmenite mineral types. In fact, rare earth metals are commodities that are prohibited from being exported.

IS allegedly asked GP not to conduct a thorough examination of the ilmenite mineral sample so that the rare earth metal content was not included in the laboratory test results report which was the basis for issuing the export document.

Meanwhile, JK is suspected of still issuing export documents even though he knew that the commodities exported by PT PMM contained rare earth metals.

"As a result of the actions of Brother GP who accommodated IS's request and the actions of Brother JK, PT PMM illegally exported soil containing rare earth metals of approximately 390 tons," said Syarief.

The three suspects were charged with Article 603 and/or Article 604 in conjunction with Article 20 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP).

They were detained for 20 days, starting from Tuesday (7/7) evening, at the Salemba Detention House of the Attorney General's Office.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General's Office is still coordinating with the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) to calculate the state's financial losses and the state's economic losses in the case.
