KKP Opens Opportunities For Cooperation In Developing Lobster Cultivation With Investors

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) opens opportunities for cooperation in developing clear lobster seed cultivation (BBL)/fry with investors.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said, after the ban on BBL exports, he asked the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Capture Fisheries and the National Commission for the Study of Fish Resources (Komnas Kajiskan) to evaluate the large volume of BBL production every year in every region of Indonesia.

From the results of the study, it turns out that the number of Indonesian BBL productions every year can reach billions.

Trenggono said this shows that God has provided Indonesia with extraordinary sustenance space. However, he admits that Indonesia has not been able to use it well.

Therefore, Trenggono admitted that he would explore the development of BBL cultivation to optimize the potential for national BBL production.

"I said, eh, you just come to Indonesia, I prepared a red carpet to carry out cultivation (BBL) and I'm quarantined, we guarantee it, we certify it," said Trenggono in a working meeting with Commission IV of the DPR RI in Jakarta, on Thursday, August 31.

Even so, Trenggono did not specify who the potential investor in question was. He hopes that if the realization of investment can be supported by all parties, it will be directed according to the concept of the blue economy.

He believes that if this could happen, in the next five years Indonesia is predicted to be able to become the largest ready-to-eat lobster producer in the world.

"Indeed, this job is not easy, but I think it will take time and it takes perseverance. I have confidence we have something so abundant, which I think we can do," he said.

For your information, the ban on BBL exports is stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Maritime Affairs Regulation (Permen) of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Number 17 of 2021 concerning Management of Lobster (Panulirus spp), Crab (Scylla spp), and Rajungan (Portunus spp) in the Territory of the Republic of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, in 2021 the volume of lobster exports will reach 1,959.9 tons or 28.61 million US dollars. Meanwhile, in 2022 the volume of lobster exports will reach 1,469.6 tons or the equivalent of US$25.7 million.

Then, in January-May 2023 the volume of lobster exports was 361.7 tons or 6.4 million US dollars.
