JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) welcomes the decision of MSCI to maintain Indonesia in the Emerging Markets category in the MSCI 2026 Market Classification Review announced on June 24, 2026.

The Head of the Capital Market, Derivatives Finance, and Carbon Exchange Supervisory Authority of the OJK, Hasan Fawzi, stated that the decision was proof that the various efforts to strengthen the Indonesian capital market that were carried out continuously had received recognition from global index providers as well as domestic and international investors.

"This also supports the maintenance of Indonesia's capital market status in every global assessment," he explained in his statement on Wednesday, June 24.

Previously, on April 7, 2026, FTSE Russell also maintained Indonesia in the Secondary Emerging Markets category, in line with a number of major countries such as China and India.

Now, MSCI has reaffirmed Indonesia's position as an Emerging Market with an assessment of market accessibility that is among the best among developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

Hasan emphasized that OJK together with the Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO) will continue to build constructive communication and relationships with global index providers and investors.

He added that this step was taken so that various reforms that have been and are being carried out can be fully understood by the international investment community.

"We are also committed to providing support for them in conducting their respective assessments," he said.

In addition, Hasan said that OJK routinely engages in dialogue with global institutional investors through various forums facilitated by international organizations, such as the World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC), and ASIFMA.

Through this forum, he added, so that OJK can convey the progress of the implementation of capital market reforms directly and at the same time receive useful input for policy improvement and market strengthening.

Despite receiving positive recognition from global index institutions, Hasan emphasized that the achievement was not the ultimate goal, and OJK did not want to be complacent and would continue to accelerate and strengthen the implementation of the capital market reform agenda with the support of all stakeholders.

"We express our appreciation to the Government, SRO, industry players, and other related parties for their excellent support and synergy in carrying out our capital market reform agenda. We hope that this synergy will continue to increase in the future," he said.

According to Hasan, the recognition of the reforms that have been carried out is an important capital for the more sustainable growth of the national capital market.

He added that with a stronger foundation of transparency, governance, and integrity, the Indonesian capital market is expected to be able to play a greater role as a source of long-term financing and a reliable investment destination in supporting economic growth and the stability of the national financial system.

On the other hand, he said efforts to improve the position and competitiveness of the Indonesian capital market at the global level were also being carried out, and this was supported by the solid performance of the national economy and the development of the capital market in line with the fundamentals of the domestic economy.

"With this condition, we hope that more Indonesian emitters will be included in global indices, which will further strengthen the attractiveness of the Indonesian capital market globally, so that market liquidity will continue to increase over time," he said.

Hasan added that the prospects for the Indonesian capital market are still very promising for both local and foreign investors.

This optimism is supported by strong economic fundamentals, increasing investor numbers, competitive stock valuations, and issuer performance which generally still show positive conditions.
