JAKARTA - Medan Fashion Trend (MFT) 2026 was successfully held on July 23-26, 2026 at Delipark Medan as part of the North Sumatra Creative Works (KKSU) 2026 series, the result of collaboration between Bank Indonesia North Sumatra Province and the Indonesia Fashion Chamber (IFC) Chapter Medan. Under the theme "Circular Fashion Movement: From Invisible to Iconic", Medan Fashion Trend 2026 is a collaborative platform that brings together designers, MSMEs, textile artisans, academics, creative communities, businesses, and governments in building a sustainable, innovative, and competitive fashion industry.

This theme illustrates the journey of local works that have not been widely known (invisible) to develop into works that have a strong identity, high economic value, and are able to become icons of Indonesian fashion (iconic). The spirit of the Circular Fashion Movement also emphasizes the importance of sustainable use of local fabrics, design innovation, material efficiency, and cross-sector collaboration as the foundation for the growth of the future fashion industry.

During the four days of implementation, Medan Fashion Trend presents a series of activities that combine creativity, education, and industry development, ranging from Fashion Parade, Fashion Exhibition, Talk Show, Workshop, Kids Fashion Competition, to Fashion Design Competition. All activities are designed to strengthen the capacity of fashion industry players as well as expand business networks and market access for North Sumatra fashion MSMEs.

A total of 521 fashion works were presented by 43 designers along with 120 emerging designers, showcasing various modern interpretations of the richness of Nusantara textiles, especially North Sumatra. The works show that cultural heritage can continue to evolve through creativity and innovation without losing its authentic value. In addition to being a stage of creativity, Medan Fashion Trend is also a space for education regarding the importance of sustainable fashion. Through various talk show and workshop sessions, participants are invited to understand how the fashion industry can develop while still paying attention to environmental aspects, empowering local artisans, strengthening MSMEs, and preserving culture through the use of textiles as a national identity.

Medan Fashion Trend 2026 was officially opened by the Head of the Bank Indonesia North Sumatra Province, Mr. Ameriza Ma'ruf Moesa, together with the Chairwoman of the Indonesia Fashion Chamber, Mrs. Lenny Agustin. The opening was a strong symbol of the synergy between Bank Indonesia, the Indonesia Fashion Chamber, the government, industry players, academics, and the community in strengthening the culture-based creative economy. Mrs. Dahnila Nasution, as the Head of the Medan Chapter of the Indonesia Fashion Chamber (IFC), said that Medan Fashion Trend is a tangible step in building a stronger and sustainable North Sumatra fashion ecosystem.

"We want Medan Fashion Trend to be a platform that is able to produce new talents, strengthen the competitiveness of fashion MSMEs, as well as raise the wealth of North Sumatra textiles so that they are increasingly known nationally and internationally. Collaboration is the key to building a growing fashion industry," he said. Meanwhile, Sofya Moureen, as Project Director of Medan Fashion Trend 2026, emphasized that the implementation of Medan Fashion Trend not only presents a fashion show, but also becomes a joint movement in building the future of the Indonesian fashion industry.

"Through the theme 'Circular Fashion Movement: From Invisible to Iconic', we want to show that local works that have not been widely seen have tremendous potential to become a new icon of Indonesian fashion. Medan Fashion Trend is a collaborative space for designers, MSMEs, academics, communities, and all stakeholders to jointly create a creative, sustainable fashion industry, and able to compete in the global market," said Sofya Moureen.

The success of the Medan Fashion Trend 2026 is the result of the synergy of various parties, ranging from Bank Indonesia North Sumatra Province, Indonesia Fashion Chamber (IFC), local governments, sponsors, media, educational institutions, UMKM players, creative communities, designers, models, volunteers, to all people who have provided support for the progress of the North Sumatra fashion industry. Medan Fashion Trend is expected to become an annual agenda that continues to encourage the birth of innovation, expand business opportunities, increase the competitiveness of MSMEs, and strengthen the position of Medan City as one of the centers for the development of the fashion industry and creative economy in Indonesia.
