Pertamina EP Limau Successfully Increases Gas Production from Old Wells

JAKARTA - Pertamina EP Limau has successfully restored the production of an uneconomic oil and gas well by performing a workover on L5A-309 well.

For information, the gas production performance is able to reach 6.7 MMSCFD with gas sales volume of up to 3.1 MMSCFD in July 2026.

Senior Manager of Pertamina EP Limau Field Abdul Rachman Para Buana said that statistically, gas sales of 3.1 MMSCFD was the highest gas sales record for Pertamina EP Limau, part of Pertamina Hulu Rokan Zone 4.

Even this figure exceeds the highest gas sales (peak) that had been achieved in 2024 at 1 MMSCFD.

"The contribution of gas supply can be optimized through existing wells with the right approach. This time, the approach with the recompletion program was successful for the L5A-309 well," said Abdul, Monday, August 10.

Workover is an effort to restore the performance of existing oil and gas (oil and gas) wells through rework activities.

At L5A-309 well, workover was carried out through a layer change program (recompletion/zone change) from W4 to W3.

The L5A-309 well workover was carried out for approximately two weeks. The well began to produce again (onstream) in the second week of July 2026.

The success of the workover at L5A-309 well will support gas production throughout the Pertamina EP Limau Field work area.

In 2026, the company is targeted to be able to produce crude gas in the amount of 11.32 MMSCFD.

In addition to finding new sources, Pertamina EP Limau Field will maintain gas production by carrying out workover on existing wells.

"The company also plans to apply a similar approach to several existing wells in order to increase its contribution to the national energy supply," he said.
