Observer: Noken Hand Crafts Can Be A Souvenir At The ASEAN Summit

JAKARTA - Economic observer from Cenderawasih University (Uncen) Kurniawan Patma encourages noken handicrafts to be a souvenir at the implementation of the ASEAN Summit (KTT) in Indonesia so that the superior Papuan product can go global.

Kurniawan Patma said that this potential can be encouraged, especially since the quality of the noken bag is no less competitive with other regions.

"That way the Papuan noken can be even more famous and become the attraction of ASEAN delegates to visit Papua," he said, quoted from Antara, Friday, April 28.

According to Kurniawan, the meeting of the ASEAN Summit in Indonesia is certainly expected to have a good impact on all Indonesian people, including Papua

"The ASEAN Summit in Indonesia will provide positive feedback for the Indonesian economy, including in Papua," he said.

He explained that the ASEAN Summit is a vehicle that will open space for Indonesia as a developing country to continue to advance.

"This is expected to stimulate Indonesia in embracing business partners and expanding its extensive and recommended business networks," he said again.

He added that this opportunity is certainly a hope that must be followed up by realizing a conducive atmosphere for investment in Indonesia, including regulatory and bureaucratic reform, increasing inclusive and resilient human resources, adequate infrastructure, and other supporting aspects.

There are 11 ASEAN member countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Timor Leste and Cambodia. The peak event will take place twice, namely the ASEAN Summit in May 2023 which takes place in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, and the ASEAN Plus Summit in Jakarta in September 2023.
