PPKM Jabodetabek Until Surabaya Hasn't Dropped To Level 2, Here's Luhut's Explanation

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, explained why PPKM (Community Activity Restrictions) in several regions, especially in agglomeration areas, had not been able to go down to level 2.

In the extension of the Java-Bali PPKM until October 18, Luhut said that Jabodetabek had not been able to go down from PPKM Level 3 to Level 2, even though Jakarta had met the requirements for downgrading.

The reason is that vaccination coverage in districts/cities in the buffer zone of Jakarta has not met the standard to enter the easing period at PPKM Level 2. Meanwhile, adjustment of PPKM levels in one agglomeration area must be the same.

"The Jabodetabek agglomeration has not gone down because the regencies of Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi have a shortage of level 3 vaccinations", Luhut said in a virtual press conference, Monday, October 4.

To accelerate vaccination achievements in the region, the government will distribute two million doses of the vaccine to be injected in the weeks ahead.

Apart from Jabodetabek, the Bandung Raya, Malang Raya, and Surabaya Raya areas have also not been able to reduce the PPKM level assessment from level 3 to level 2, even though the condition of the case has met the requirements for downgrading.

"The vaccination coverage has not yet reached the target, so it remains at level 3", said Luhut.

Meanwhile, the agglomeration area that has experienced a decline in the assessment level from level 3 to level 2 is Solo Raya. Then, there are 3 non-agglomerated regencies/cities that can go down to level 2, namely Cirebon City, Banjar City, and Madiun.

In the general extension of the Java-Bali PPKM, Luhut said there was an increase in the number of regions implementing PPKM Level 3 from 84 regencies/cities to 107 regencies/cities.

Then, currently, there are still 20 regions that will continue PPKM Level 2 for the next two weeks. Then, there are no regions that are still undergoing PPKM Level 4.

Luhut said the increase in the number of regions implementing PPKM Level 3 which was previously level 2 is because these regions have not met the vaccination target for implementing PPKM Level 2.

"Cities at level 2 that previously received dispensation (on the implementation of PPKM until October 4) are currently unable to achieve the vaccination coverage target", he concluded.

The good news is that there is one area that has been able to implement PPKM Level 1, or you could say the new normal, namely the City of Blitar.

"The government will test the implementation of PPKM Level 1, the new normal for Blitar City. The implementation of PPKM Level 1 will approach normal community life activities", he said.

The implementation of the PPKM Level 1 trial in Blitar was implemented because it had fulfilled the WHO indicator requirements and the target for vaccination coverage of dose 1 was 70 percent and dose 1 for the elderly was 60 percent.
