Glenn Fredly The Movie Movie Review: Another Story From The Legend

JAKARTA - The portrait of Glenn Fredly's life was presented in the film Glenn Fredly: The Movie directed by Lukman Sardi. This film was also produced by Robert Ronny and Daniel Mananta and collaborated with Marthino Lio as the main character.

This film also stars Ruth Sahanaya, Bucek Depp, Zulfa Maharani, Alyssa Abidin, Sonya Alyssa, Sahira Anjani, Winky Wiriawan, Aufa Assegaf and Gilbert Pattiruhu. In addition, this film also features a series of musicians known as Glenn's good friends ranging from Ridho Slank, Webster Manutuhu and others.

As the title implies, Glenn Fredly: The Movie tells the story of Glenn Fredly's career which became popular in the 2000s after the January song. He returns to Ambon and tries to entertain the public amid the issue of rioting that continues to occur there. He meets a fan who turns out to be an Islamic church guard.

When Glenn was about to sing, riots began in the church and Glenn himself witnessed his fans killed by the gunfire. From there, Glenn was determined to bring change so that there would be no riots in Ambon.

Glenn also experienced confusion because his return to Ambon was not welcomed by his father. They fight until Glenn chooses to leave the house. Glenn chose to live in Jakarta, starting his life as a capital singer.

Glenn's journey continued until he drowned in the desire to help others. He didn't realize his life was starting to collapse, his relationship with those around him was the same.

Glenn Fredly: The Movie is good at sorting moments and doing song curation to be shown between stories. This film will make the audience sing but indeed Glenn's songs have their own magic.

Then this film was played by Marthino Lio who accepted his role as Glenn. His movements, his way of speaking is very like a Glenn. Maybe if you close your eyes, you can believe Lio's voice is Glenn's voice.

The tagline for this film is love, music, family. But apparently, the family is a subplot that dominates and manages to deliver the storyline of this film. This film is good at choosing the story to be shown instead of making biopics and then compiling Glenn's journey.

From this film, viewers will know a lot about Glenn starting from his efforts to advance Ambon as a music city, to relationships with his father which are rarely publicly highlighted. His interactions with Bucek Depp and Ruth Sahanaya also supported and both acted well to support Lio.

In the midst of choosing this plot, unfortunately the storytelling is not effective enough. There is no teamestamp that can show when the flow is forward or backward so viewers have to guess the process.

Apart from that, Glenn Fredly: The Movie ended the film's story with a good conclusion. Instead of making it look like fiction, this film transitions from a fictional story (Marthino Lio) to the original story (Glenn Fredly).

This film is not only a biopic but a representation that Indonesia has a musician who fights for the music industry to the last point. Supported by Marthino Lio's extraordinary acting, this film also captures the family side that is close to the community.
