The Viral Couple Robbers Turned Out To Be Recidivists Of Kambahan, Only Freed From Prison 3 Months Ago

Two sharp armed robbers who held a husband and wife (couple) at gunpoint in the Tambora area, West Jakarta, were finally arrested by the police. The two perpetrators with the initials AF and AS are known to be not new players in the crime of motor vehicle theft (curanmor).

West Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief AKBP Tri Suhartanto said, from the results of the examination, the two perpetrators claimed to have committed crimes at 28 crime scenes (TKP) in just three months. It was later revealed that both of them were recidivist recurrence specialists.

"This perpetrator has previously served three sentences for a similar case. He has only been released for three months, they are repeating their actions again," he told the media, Thursday, November 27, 2025.

Tri explained that this arrest stemmed from a viral video on social media showing the detention of a couple on Saturday, November 15, 2025. At that time, the two perpetrators were looking for their target motorbikes in residential areas.

When they saw the victim passing to the market, they immediately took the opportunity to seize the victim's valuables.

"The perpetrators are indeed curanmor specialists. When they see an opportunity, they immediately execute them," Tri said.

In every action, AF and AS always carry sharp weapons in the form of machetes and objects resembling guns. After being secured, the gun was known to be just an airsoft gun of a type of toy, which was used solely to scare the victim.

They took out machetes to suppress the victim's mentality. That's what makes many victims don't dare to fight back," he said.

The motive behind their crime is known to meet lifestyle needs and buy drugs. The urine test results showed the two suspects were positive for using methamphetamine.

Furthermore, the stolen motorbike was stored in the perpetrator's rented house in Tambora before being sold through the Facebook platform with a Cash on Delivery (COD) system and a lopsided price. Police are currently developing an investigation to hunt down criminals suspected of being involved.

"This is what we are investigating, because 28 crime scenes cannot be released without accommodating party," Tri explained.

In addition to securing the suspect, the police also confiscated four stolen motorbikes, including one motorbike used by the perpetrator during the viral robbery on Jalan Songsi, Tambora.

For their actions, AF and AS were charged with Article 365 paragraphs (1) and (2) of the Criminal Code concerning theft accompanied by violence, with a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison.*
