Nurdin Abdullah Contacted PDIP, Sure No Corruption: Responsible In The World And The Hereafter

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) emphasized that it would not intervene in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding legal proceedings against the Governor of South Sulawesi (Sulsel) Nurdin Abdullah. However, they will still monitor the progress of the case.

"We follow the process. But because of the public's assessment that conveyed it to me, many are shocked, sad because he is a good person," said Secretary-General of the PDI-P (PDIP) DPP, Hasto Kristiyanto, Sunday, February 28.

Hasto said, from his track record so far, Nurdin is known as a good person. He even received the Bung Hatta Anticorruption Awards, the same award that was received by President Jokowi and former Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama.

"That's why we were also surprised. He himself (Nurdin) before being brought by the KPK, contacted Mr. Andi, the Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD - PDI Perjuangan Sulsel) said he was ready to be responsible, both in the world, in the hereafter, as well as for the entire community. That he did not do things he was accused of," explained Hasto.

But whatever it is, Hasto stated that in this situation, his party supports the KPK's efforts to eradicate corruption.

With this case, Hasto also said that the PDIP would improve itself. Because it is undeniable that some of his cadres are involved in corruption cases.

"Because the PDIP is a big party, we have more than 28 million voters, we have 1.4 million active party officials, so all of them must uphold discipline, and must not abuse their power," he explained.

For information, Nurdin Abdullan was named a suspect in the case of alleged bribery and gratuities related to the procurement of goods and services, licensing, and infrastructure development in the South Sulawesi Provincial Government for the 2020-2021 Budget Year.

Nurdin was named a suspect with the Secretary of the Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Office of South Sulawesi Province, Edy Rahmat. Meanwhile, the Director of PT. Agung Perdana Bulukumba (APB) Agung Sucipto was named a suspect in giving bribes.

Nurdin is suspected of accepting bribes and gratuities with a total value of IDR 5.4 billion related to projects within the South Sulawesi Provincial Government.

In addition, Nurdin is suspected of receiving a bribe of IDR 2 billion from Agung through Edy. The bribe was given so that Agung could return to work on the project in South Sulawesi for the 2021 budget year.
