Qodari Says Supporting Prabowo Is A Logical Choice For Jokowi

JAKARTA - Political observer M Qodari said that the choice of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to support Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto as a presidential candidate in the 2024 election was the most logical thing.

"Rationally, it makes sense that Mr. Jokowi is close to and supports Prabowo because he is again among the most likely presidential candidates," said Qodari as quoted by Antara, Sunday, August 7.

Qodari said Prabowo met the strong criteria as a presidential candidate because of his top electability in the top three. Two other names, namely Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo.

He also said another factor was the seat base of political parties.

In this case, Prabowo as the General Chair of the Gerindra Party who strongly supports him to run as a presidential candidate.

"Well, if there are two criteria, electability and political parties, all of them are correct. The most certain presidential candidate today who can run is Prabowo Subianto," said Qodari.

Qodari added that Jokowi also has a close relationship with Prabowo. Besides Prabowo being a minister in Jokowi's cabinet, the relationship between the two has also become a symbol of reconciliation and unity.

Jokowi, continued Qodari, also showed comfortable gestures and body language with Prabowo. For example, asking Defense Minister Prabowo to represent himself to close the 2022 Presidential Cup tournament, Saturday, August 6.

"If that's true, this is the clearest signal that Mr. Jokowi has a heart, Mr. Jokowi has symphaty for Prabowo," he concluded.
