President Prabowo Invites DPR To Select 5 Names Of KPK Capims Jokowi's Proposal

Coordinating Minister for Kumham Ipas Yusril Ihza Mahendra said President Prabowo Subianto approved the names of 10 candidates for leadership (capim) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) proposed by the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo to be processed by the DPR RI.

Jokowi's ten names of KPK candidates in the previous government, namely Agus Joko Pramono, Ahmad Alamsyah Saragih, Djoko Poerwanto, Fitroh Rohcahyanto, Ibnu Basuki Widodo, Ida Budhiati, Johanis Tanak, Michael Rolandi Cesnanta Brata, Poengky indarti, and Setyo Budiyanto.

"The DPR is welcome to process these names to choose five names so that they are determined by the president," said Yusril as confirmed in Jakarta, Friday, November 8, which was confiscated by Antara.

Yusril emphasized that Prabowo would not withdraw the names of the selection results of the committee that had been submitted by Jokowi to the DPR in the previous administration.

He said the government was aware that based on Article 30 of Law Number 30 of 2022 concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission, it would take about six months to process the election for the KPK leadership which will end at the end of December 2024.

Meanwhile, the legal consideration of the decision of the Constitutional Court in 2022 regarding the extension of the term of office of the KPK leadership stated that the president was only given the opportunity to submit the names of candidates for KPK leadership to the DPR.

Responding to this, Yusril said that the leadership of the DPR recently sent a letter asking whether President Prabowo would withdraw the names that had been proposed by Jokowi, form a new selection committee, and choose new candidates or not.

President Prabowo has answered the DPR letter and stated that he agrees with the names that have been proposed, as a middle ground so that Article 30 of the KPK Law and the Constitutional Court's decision are obeyed.

"Insyaallah, this middle ground can overcome the possibility of a vacuum of the KPK leadership which will end at the end of December," he said.

Previously, KPK Deputy Chair Nurul Ghufron said President Prabowo had the authority to continue or annull 10 names of candidates for the KPK leadership and Supervisory Board (Dewas) for the 2024 '2029 period.

"Pak Prabowo currently as President also has the authority to annull, right, this is his relay to the new president. Therefore, (President Prabowo) also has the authority to continue or not, that is the president's authority," said Ghufron in Jakarta, Tuesday 5 November.

Ghufron said that one of the reasons for the KPK leadership and Council candidates to be elected by the selection committee formed by the president in the same period was to maintain independence so that the KPK leadership and Council candidates did not have a relationship with the previous president.

A number of parties also asked President Prabowo to repeat the selection of candidates for the leadership and the KPK Council because they considered the legitimate Pansel to be the Pansel formed by Prabowo as the current President.

One of them is the Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman, who submitted a judicial review to the Constitutional Court personally regarding the validity of the KPK Pansel which was formed by Jokowi.

Boyamin submitted a request for judicial review of Article 30 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) of Law Number 30 of 2002 concerning the KPK on Article 1 paragraph (3), Article 27 paragraph (1), Article 28D paragraph (1, 2, 3), and Article 28I paragraph (2) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.
