Knock! Former Bogor Regent Rachmat Yasin Sentenced To 2 Years 8 Months In Prison

JAKARTA - The panel of judges at the Bandung District Court (PN) sentenced former Bogor Regent Rachmat Yasin to 2 years and 8 months in prison for being proven to be involved in a gratification case.

The panel of judges chaired by Asep Sumirat at the Bandung District Court, West Java, Monday also sentenced Racgmat to pay a fine of Rp. 200 million.

If he is unable to pay, Rachmat will have to serve an additional 2 months in prison.

In this corruption case, Rachmat is said to have received gratuities from the Bogor Regency's Local Government Working Unit (SKPD) totaling around Rp. 8.9 billion for the purposes of the Bogor Regent and Deputy Regent Elections in 2013 and the 2014 General Election.

Rachmat also obtained 170,442 hectares of land in Singasari Village, Jonggol District, Bogor Regency, which was given by a businessman named Rudy Wahab for the purpose of obtaining a permit to build an Islamic Boarding School.

The sentence handed down by the judge against Rachmat was lower than the demands of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) prosecutors who demanded imprisonment for 4 years and 2 months.

"I accept it," said Rahmat Yasin after the panel of judges read out the verdict, as reported by Antara, Monday.

The former Bogor Regent was found guilty according to the first indictment, namely Article 12 B in conjunction with Article 12 C of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001.
