Geruk Pasir Parangtritis Akan Dinilai Untuk Menjadi Geopark Nasional

The Sand Gumuk in the Parangtritis Beach area of Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, which is one of the Yogyakarta Geoparks, will be assessed by the national team to upgrade its status to National Geopark.

"On July 22, 2024, an assessment of the Yogyakarta Geopark will be carried out, including the Barchan Parangtritis Sand Gumuk to be upgraded to National Geopark," said Head of the Bantul Tourism Office Saryadi in his statement, Sunday, July 14.

According to him, the assessment team that will conduct the Yogyakarta Geopark assessment comes from members of the Indonesian Geopark National Committee Expert, UNESCO Global Geopark Raja Ampat, and Head of the UNESCO Global Geopark BP Technical Team Ijen.

He said the overall area of the Pasir Gumuk in the Parangtritis Beach area of Bantul was 412.8 hectares, consisting of a core zone of 141.10 hectares, then a buffer zone in the west covering an area of 176.43 hectares, and a buffer zone in the east covering an area of 95.27 hectares.

"Gmuk Pasir Parangtritis is one of the Jogja Geoparks in Bantul, the Parangtritis Sand Gumuk has a uniqueness in the form of a reverse sickle moon or called a barchan," he said.

Therefore, he said, Bantul Regency must be proud because it has been blessed with a geological wealth of only two in the world, namely in Mexico and Indonesia.

He further said that Geopark Jogja was born to convey to the world that the axis or line or imaginary axis that symbolizes harmony and balance of human relations with God, and humans and humans with nature.

Including five elements of formation, namely fire (agni) from Mount Merapi, land (bantala) from the earth of Ngayogyakarta and water (tirta) from the South Sea, wind (maruta) and akasa (ether), including three elements that make life physical, energy and soul.

"It has spread over the landscape of Yogyakarta, the alleys of Merapi and the Geruk Pasir that influence each other naturally, with the support of the existence of the Menoreh Hills and the Great Batur Hills have lived and lived this civilization," he said.
