Pro-Palestinian Demonstration in London After Israel Slaughters Refugees in Rafah, 3 Police Injured, 40 People Arrested

JAKARTA - At least three police were injured and 40 demonstrators were arrested during a pro-Palestinian demonstration after an Israeli attack destroyed a refugee camp tent in Rafah, killing 45 people.

Quoting Metro.co.uk, this demonstration took place in Westminster, London, England on Tuesday 28 May at around 18.00 local time.

A crowd of demonstrators carrying Palestinian flags and banners shouted pro-Palestinian calls following Israel's deadly airstrike on the refugee camp in Rafah, Gaza, on Sunday, May 26.

One of the mass groups that initiated this demonstration said that around 10,000 people attended the protest.

The police in their statement said that the demonstration ended at 20.00. However, around 500 demonstrators remained.

Dozens of protesters were then arrested by police on charges of violating the provisions of demonstration hours. A number of demonstrators who refused to be arrested were responded to by the police with repressive action.

Police added that a number of protesters outside demonstration hours moved towards Bridge Street, just outside Westminster station. Advice also came that the crowd was causing traffic flow to become obstructed.

Towards 22.00, police in full anti-riot equipment were deployed to approach the crowd of demonstrators and make arrests.

A total of 40 demonstrators were arrested on charges of violating the Public Order Law.

While two police officers were slightly injured, another was seriously injured by a bottle thrown from a crowd of demonstrators in Downing Street.
